Almost 4 billion bird song and call recordings have been captured by Haikuboxes since 2021.
The graph above shows the number of bird song & call identifications made since 2023, highlighting not only the growth in the number of Haikuboxes, but how data aggregation can produce meaningful information.
By early June 2025, Haikuboxes were recording over 8 million sound clips per day. The daily count then tapered off through November and December to a low of around 3 million bird identifications.
It is easy to spot where things stood in early March, when these data were analyzed. Vocalizations were on a steep rise to another peak as we head into the busy breeding and nesting season.
